Chapter 7

It rained outside. It looked like this was the day the sky had decided to pour all the stored water from the past few weeks, and it didn’t want to change its plans. Especially for someone as unimportant as me.

I was running on the sidewalk, passing through people, and almost bumping into them. My shoes had long become soaked, my clothes had stuck to my body like a second skin, and my hair was so drenched it formed rivers down my back. Yet, none of that stopped me. Nothing could stop me, not even God himself.

I ran all the way to the bus station. I got on the bus, and as soon as I got out, I ran all the way to my destination. I ran until I saw the familiar forest and the campers surrounding it.

I looked around, trying to find out which one exactly belonged to him. Some looked fancier than others, with more functions and overall seemed more luxurious, while others looked like they barely kept going, too old and rusty.

My head snapped left and right, bypassing the raindrops and looking for a sign, a name, or anything else that could point me in the right direction.

And then I saw it.

I saw him.

He stood outside, looking cool as ever. His back was leaning on one of the fancier campers and his hair looked soaked from the rain, while his right hand held a cigarette close to his mouth. There was a trail of smoke around his face, and the light barely held itself under the strong raindrops, but it was still burning.

As soon I saw him, I headed in that direction, ready to stomp anything on my way. A foot away from him, his eyes caught mine, and I slowed down my stride, almost stopping in my steps.

What if he didn’t want me anymore? What if the magic had disappeared, given up on me? What if he realized I wasn’t enough? Fears and anxieties bubbled inside of me, yet I tried to push them down and quiet what they were saying.

“Took you long enough,” he said when I was just a few steps before him. He threw the cigarette on the wet muddy ground, and with two long steps he reached me. His hands grabbed my chin, moving it up, as his lips smashed into mine.

Kissing him felt like a gulp of fresh breath. It felt enchanting, addicting, almost like a drug. His lips pressed softly into mine, making me open myself to him, and his tongue twisted with mine, pulling the soul out of me. His fingers gently wrapped around my throat, and I let out a quiet cry of both surprise and pleasure. He drank the sound down as if he starved for it, and pressed his body even further into mine, making me feel just how hard he was. Everywhere.

When we finally pulled away, both of us were panting and were completely soaked from the rain. Yet, nothing could make me feel the cold, not when I had his warmth so close to me.
